Every year for the last six years, I have started my year by making a vision board. This year though, it took me until May 10th to make mine. It wasn’t because I lacked supplies or time. The foam board, scissors, glue stick and assortment of magazines have been waiting for me since long before January 1st. And yet, whether it was due to the fires that robbed me of January (and February), the rush of life that followed in March and April, or my own lack of clarity, it took until May for me to make space for this grounding ritual.
As I often say in my poetry (and in my own affirmations and mantras to myself) it is never too late to choose yourself. And yesterday, on Mother’s Day of all days, I chose. I chose to take the time, to make the space, to document my vision for my future.
I never know where the board will end up when I begin. But when I finished gluing down the last shred of carefully chosen paper, my vision became clear: this year, I am aiming for serenity. It’s a funny word to choose as my anchor when I have a book coming out. You’d think I’d be focused on the explosive growth and success I hope this book will bring. But in truth, if this year has taught me anything, it’s that without peace, there’s no way to enjoy the success we all so fervently chase after.
Perhaps it’s because of the growth I’ve experienced while writing Moon Garden: Poetry for Manifestation that my own barometer for success has shifted. Like the flowers in the garden, I’m in no rush to reveal myself or become my fullest expression. Instead, I am trusting that as long as I am aligned with my deepest purpose, everything will unfold exactly as it should. What I owe myself, and what you owe yourself, is ease along the way.
This realization ties perfectly into the energy of May’s full moon.
Which brings me to the Flower Moon. As its name suggests, May’s Flower Moon is a moon of expansion. To flower (verb) means to, “be in or reach an optimum stage of development; develop fully and richly.” To develop fully, we must have clarity about what it is we are trying to become. For me, my fullness is grounded in my serenity. That may resonate with you too, but it also may mean something else entirely.
As with every full moon, to develop fully, means we must let go fully, too. Transformation hates to be tethered. By old stories, limiting beliefs, old habits and patterns that no longer serve us.
Under the light of tonight’s moon, consider trying this Flower Moon Ritual:
1. Choose a Flower
Go outside after the moon has risen and hold a flower in your hands. Let it symbolize your own becoming.
2. Name What No Longer Nourishes You
Just as a flower releases wilted petals to make room for new growth, name aloud one belief, habit, or fear you are ready to release to make space for what you deeply desire.
3. Petal Offering
Gently pluck one petal from your flower and place it on the earth. Let this act represent your willingness to let go of what no longer serves you.
4. Welcome In Your Desire
Now that you’ve made space, name your desire. The thing you so deeply wish for, but maybe haven’t had the courage (or space) to claim until now.
5. Breathe In Your New Season
With each inhale, breathe in your desire. With each exhale, release what you’re ready to let go of. Feel yourself opening, petal by petal, into your fullness without rushing or forcing.
6. Close with Gratitude
With your hand on your heart, thank yourself for fueling your own tender transformation.
A poem from Moon Garden, Poetry for Manifestation.
There are many interpretations of what it means to manifest. For me, it’s simple: manifestation is knowing what you want — not from a place of ego (your mind) but from the root of your soul — and committing to that with your actions, feelings, and thoughts on a daily basis. Manifestation is rooted in alignment. What I’m manifesting this full moon is the serenity that was at the center of my vision board. Serenity that is born of being joyfully at peace with where I am. The interplay between where I am and where I want to be in the future feels new. Instead of rushing towards a brighter tomorrow, I am reveling in the light of my today. I am slowing down and relishing, which is exactly on track with what June’s moon wants for me — the strawberry moon of pleasure over perfection, indulgence over restriction. May sets us up to expand into our pleasure. Please take some time to start thinking about what pleasure means to you. Too few of us (myself included) know the answer to that question.
Speaking of the Strawberry Moon… if you missed my Lunar Eclipse Full Moon workshop in March, I have another workshop happening in Los Angeles on June 24th. Click the button below for full details, I’d love to see you there.
The Soulspace Podcast
I’m so excited to share that my episode on The SoulSpace Podcast is live! This show is a true sanctuary for spirits who are devoted to healing, remembering who they are, and coming home to their bodies and their truth.
In this sacred conversation with Camila Greenberg, the world’s first Sovereignty Coach, we explored the depths of choosing pleasure over perfection—a topic that’s been woven through my own journey in such powerful ways.
An excerpt from one of my favorite moments that relates to my serenity.
“I’m the most peaceful I’ve ever been in my life. Does that mean that things are perfect? Absolutely not. But I’ve stopped searching for perfection and defining myself based on what I’m able to accomplish and instead I’m evaluating my life based on not how big of an achiever I can be, but rather how authentic can I be. How true can I be to my essence and the reason I am on this planet. Because I believe each of us is here with a purpose. I think it’s no accident that we don’t have replicas. And when you think about it that way, that you have this singular gift to the world, then it almost becomes a crime not to love yourself. Because when you don’t love yourself, you don’t think you’re worthy of sharing anything. And the world needs our gifts right now. The world needs us all to share.”
