Welcome back to the Self Love Confidential Poetry Oracle, where the universe sends you the message you need to hear right now by way of a poem from one of my books.
If your mental health has hit an all time low, this week’s Oracle is for you.
Much of my work is devoted to exploring the power we have to move our thinking—from negative to positive, from guilt to gratitude, from fear to love. The moves we make in our mind are the greatest tool we have for manifesting the future of our dreams. But sometimes, especially this week, moving your mind just feels impossible. The anger too fiery, the sadness too heavy, the doubt too immobilizing. And that—that is when we let go of our minds and let our bodies lead. We move.
For a long time, I resisted exercise. I loathed it. It wasn’t my thing. Until I realized something: they call it working out because movement solves things. No matter how cluttered my mind is at the beginning, movement, no matter how minimal or how intense, clears me. Exercise releases endorphins that in turn shift our perception of pain. It’s—quite literally—medicine.
So if you can’t shake that thought or feeling, shake that body. Chances are you’ll end up feeling better—mentally, physically, emotionally, and, most of all, spiritually. And once you feel just a little bit better, a little bit clearer… then you can take real action to make your world and the world at large a little bit better.
What if I can’t move? You ask. There are many ways to move your body that don’t involve impact. Humming for example, shaking/vibrating, tightening and releasing your muscles… These are all valid ways to release the trauma your body has latched onto. To create the space we all need and crave.
Imagine the possibilities if we all cleared ourselves through movement, and then used that extra space in service to each other? On World Mental Health Day, and especially now, we need each other more than ever.
The best advice! I was taught to just sit and read a book or watch tv when I was upset or bored, and finally as an adult learned to get up and move. It's been so useful for my body, mind, and spirt!
